Pedro enjoyed first team experience when he participated in the league games against Real Murcia in the 19th round of games and against Real Valladolid in the 29th round. He was also a key player for the Barça B team that won promotion as he made 36 appearances and scored six goals. Pep Guardiola knows all about his ability and had no doubts when calling him up to join in pre-season with the first team. Pedro made 14 appearances during Barcelona's treble winning 2008-09 season. He came on as a late substitute as the club won the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final, replacing Andrés Iniesta.

During the 09/10 pre-season, Guardiola confirmed that Pedro would be a part of the first team squad. On 16 August 2009 Pedro scored his first competitive goal for Barcelona's first team, helping ensure victory at San Mamés, home of Athletic Bilbao, in the Spanish Super Cup. He also assisted the first goal in the 2-1 win. Later that month, Barcelona rewarded Pedro with a new contract, with a €75 million release clause. Pedro came on as a substitute for Zlatan Ibrahimović in the 81st minute and scored the winning goal in the 115th minute in the 2009 UEFA Super Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk. He scored his first La Liga goal on 3 October 2009 against Almería, a brilliant strike with his right foot, with the game finishing 1-0.
