Jovetić was a founding member of the Montenegro national team who played their first game against Hungary in March 2007, and is also a regular for the Montenegro U-21 team. Fiorentina supporters gave Jovetić the nickname "Jo-Jo". Because of his hairstyle, Jovetić is frequently compared by press and Fiorentina supporters to the famous Queen guitarist Brian May. His idol is Roma forward and fellow Montenegro international Mirko Vučinić, whom he took the Montenegro U21 captain's armband from at the age of 17.
